The challenge presented by the Horsey kitchen was to create new space from the confines of a tight working area where all of the cooking appliances and surfaces where lined in a row. The solution was to create an island to serve as the focal point for kitchen activities, including visitor participation and conversation, while visually maintaining continuity with the remainder of the kitchen space.

The cooking island features and ceiling-mounted vent hood to draw out odors and emissions from the food cooking below on the state-of-the-art gas range. The cooktop includes a grill, specifically intended for the preparation of breakfast foods, eliminating the need for additional electrical appliances (a major requirement of the job).

The Granite counters surrounding the cook top also serve as work areas and a dining place for informal meals and gatherings. The Granite counter tops are installed throughout the kitchen space, providing additional work areas and lasting beauty to tie the entire kitchen together.

Italian Tumbled Stone (used as a backsplash above the counter tops) creates an open and natural feeling and enlarges the space while providing depth and color coordination between the counters and custom cabinetry.

Completing the kitchen’s new look are stainless steel appliances, offering a dramatic contrast to the earth tones in the custom cabinetry and new hardwood floors.
