When does a room addition cease being just about walls and windows? When it connects the house, an outdoor living area, the surrounding landscape and a stone fireplace whose chimney reaches to the sky!
The starting point for the Eatz’ sunroom addition was creativity and design. The 14’ x 22’ room addition has several “walls of glass” that invite the outdoors inside through the full-sliding glass doors and the palladium and transom accent windows. The Vermont Cedar hardwood floors and the tongue-in-groove Southern Pine ceiling create a relaxed atmosphere with a mountain lodge feel that incorporates the surrounding canopy of foliage.
The sunroom addition looks out directly at the custom built stone fireplace and chimney. The 12’ wide fireplace with 17’ tall chimney is flanked by two 4’ x 8’ custom Ipe wood privacy screens, which focus attention on the stacked stone work and provide a tranquil seating area as well as seclusion from next door neighbors.
While the fireplace dominates one side of the outdoor living space, the handsome Ipe wood decking (which is laid diagonally across all decking surfaces) and stairway to the lower 25’ x 25’ deck provide varied elevations and gathering spaces for outdoor entertainment. The stainless steel cable railing offers an unobstructed and maintenance-free view of the surrounding landscape and provides a fine-finished look to the entire living space.
